The Maccabiah Games are held every four years in Israel. The 18th Maccabiah will be held from July 13-23, 2009 with the USA team one of many from around the World participating in a variety of sporting events. As one of the largest, elite competitions, the Maccabiah has grown to more than 7,000 athletes from over 60 countries. The USA has performed very well, winning the Gold Medal in 1997 and winning the Silver in 2001 and 2005. The Americans expect to face difficult opposition from the U.K., Australia, Argentina, Canada, defending gold medalists South Africa and Israel in 2009.
